The Power of Purpose- The Weakness of Relying on Motivation

The Power of Purpose- The Weakness of Relying on Motivation

Motivation is overrated.  Waiting on motivation is like waiting on a bus that never comes.  At some point, you have a choice to make.  Do you continue waiting for the bus?  Or do you figure out another way to get to where you want to go?   Either way, motivation is not a reliable method of transportation.  A sense of purpose overrides the fickle nature of motivation.  Purpose is powerful.

Purpose is your connection back to who you are.  When you are fulfilling your purpose or in the process of becoming in alignment with your purpose, you embark deeper on the path of knowing yourself

“This above all; to thine own self be true.” -William Shakespeare, initiate in the lineage of King Salomon

Purpose provides clarity through emotional behavioral patterns, the cycles keeping you from being motivated.  Purpose gives your Life meaning.  It gives you something to wake up for, not out of obligation but from a devotion, a desire that burns within you.

“Strong reasons make strong actions.” -William Shakespeare

What if motivation doesn’t precede action?  What if motivation is a by-product of continual action?  Building a life based around depending on motivation is like building a house without a foundation.  Motivation is based on emotions.  Emotions are neither stable, nor constant.  It can be difficult to develop consistency by relying on motivation.  Motivation comes and goes, similar to the tides of the ocean.  There are times when you feel on top of your game.  You are eager to accomplish your goals.  Then, the pendulum swings and you can feel like doing nothing again.  These are the pitfalls of leaning on motivation.  You are subject to the ebb and flow of the ego.  Sometimes you can even be very close to accomplishing your goals until an outside event occurs and you lose focus.  Emotions can take you for a ride, but it’s more of a rollercoaster.  You are not the driver.  When you wait until you are in the mood to do something, you may end up waiting a long time, especially when doing things that you have never done before.

Successful people aren’t motivated.  They are driven by purpose.  I’ve received the opportunity to witness successful people in action.  Ipsissimus Dave Lanyon, one of the 3 lineage holders of the Modern Mystery School, is a man who considers people first and how to best care about the well-being of others.  Divina Franca Lanyon, CEO of Modern Mystery School, is passionate about serving the spiritual progression of others.  It doesn’t seem possible how much one woman can accomplish in a day and yet she does.  Divina Franca is a living example of purpose actualized.

Through their guidance along with the tools of the Modern Mystery School, I’ve learned so much about how to transform my life.  As a result, I’ve shifted my approach to my goals.  I don’t question my emotional state when making decisions for my day.  In fact, I often choose in spite of emotions.  By working out even when I haven’t been in the mood to, I’ve developed a new healthy pattern for my life.  This pattern is based on purpose.  I’ve translated this understanding into other areas of my life.  Even this very article you are reading right now was born out of a series of choices from choosing my purpose.  I chose my passion over the voice of doubt.  I chose to express myself, my strength and my light even when it would have been easier to dim it.

It becomes easier to choose purpose over motivation the more you do it. Like many skills, such as meditation, you are designed to build muscles, to get stronger after practice. Strength isn’t natural. It isn’t given to you. You earn it. Whether it is the strength of your mind through meditation, the strength of your body through fitness or the strength of your spirit through living your purpose, the choices that build strength are continual. This consistent effort towards your purpose builds the path. The power of your purpose is connected to the core of who you are. By knowing and actively discovering your purpose, you reveal the power of You.

Living from purpose,
